So what exactly does the word solar mean? Having a little surf around the web there are many different definitions. On Dictionary.com they give 7 different points for solar as an adjective.

pertaining to the sun

determined by the sun

proceeding from the sun

utilizing, operated by, or depending on solar energy

indicating time with reference to the sun

manufacturing or providing solar power

astrology. subject to the influence of the sun.

I think the 7th point is the best and sums the word up in a loose general sentence. Of course you could go deep into this subject, but for the purpose of this website an in-depth definiton isn’t required.

From the research we also found the latin word Sol means sun, giving a clear reason for the word solar!
